Next Steps in Sustainable Space: In-orbit Insurance and Innovation
May 2025
Heriot-Watt University
Edinburgh, Scotland
The UK in general and Scotland in particular wants, and needs to be a leader in the space industry, and in particular in sustainable space showing thought leadership, developing initiatives and best practice action.
The Niparo Summits bring together academia, industry and government to make tangible progress in the area of space sustainability.
The two previous Niparo summits have been academic and research focused in nature with discussions limited to 40 or so participants, generally from Scottish universities. These have been incredibly successful and the resulting publications and outcomes have influenced policy makers, academic researchers councils and governments.
The 3rd Niparo Summit on Space Sustainability, while maintaining the academic-industry-government interaction, will place an emphasis to more industry-led discussions and the aim of the summit is to deeper understand the accelerators and roadblocks to insurance related to space activities, In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM) technologies and financial innovation all under the umbrella of space sustainability and the circular economy.
